Easy Empty Tomb Easter Snack for kids
1 large marshmallow to use for each roll
I begin by telling the Easter story found in Luke 23, (for younger children, I summarize until I reach Chapter 24). As I am telling the story I pass out the crescent triangles and 1 marshmallow to each child and myself. I then place the marshmallow on top of the triangle and roll it just as I normally would with the mallow inside. (Little ones may need a help). I Then put them in the oven at 350 degrees until done. Take them out and let them cool! Finish reading with 24:6 and give them each their cooked crescent roll and have them open them up. To their amazement, the "tomb" will be empty! They love it! It is a tradition and every year it is so fun for them!

Don't forget how important your job is!
Motherhood is hard, demanding and a dying of yourself everyday. I get tired sometimes of dying to myself! Maybe you have had times like this. Please let me encourage you as I have recieved encouragement this past week. Mothers, your job is the most important and sacred thing you will ever do! You are a very important part of God's one soul desire, to love others. You are helping Him fulfill His plan on this earth! Sometimes it seems as if what we do has little value. Changing diapers, wiping noses, cleaning dirty fingers and faces, many times a day! Those things to God are just as important for His kingdom as missionaries who go to lands far away preaching the good news to thousands of people! HE notices the tedious things you do. HE appreciates the little things that you day in and day out. When you feed those little mouths, you are feeding the hungry just as The Word says. God is holding you and cares about your fears. He sees when you are totally exhausted and yet you stumble out of bed to comfort your little one who is sick. Even if it seems nobody else on this earth ever appreciates the things you do as a mom, God does! You are honored in His eyes and someday when you see Him face to face, He will say, "well done my good and faithful servant!" To all you mothers out there, keep going, He is with you and will never leave you or forsake you!

Blanket time
-Start when they are young, about 6 months is when I start. for about 15 minutes 2x a day I put them on a blanket with toys or in a playpen. I don't talk to them, I just let them play by themselves.
-Use a blanket (not to big, fold if necessary. If you get the area too big, the boundary lines are to big and they start wandering as if they were not on a blanket) Carpet squares work well too!
-Gradually increase their time alone by about 5 minutes each month until they are at a half an hour. Until they reach about the age of 3, I never have them on a blanket for longer that 30minutes. 2x a day.
-Be consistent! If you start this when they are older, just stick with it and continue to direct them back to their blankets if they get off. At first, stay in the room with them and quietly read to yourself so they see your example.
-Eventually, you should be able to leave the room momentarily and they should stay on their blanket without problems.
-The single toy that you give them to play with, (I do not let them pick, show them that you decide otherwise they can be indecisive) will become fun for them when they learn to focus.
-My children actually look forward to this time and when I need to accomplish something, it is very useful. Our morning blanket time is 45 minutes- 1 hour, in the afternoon around my dinner prep time, it is 30 minutes. I try to let them up about the time dad gets home so there is peace in the home when he walks in the door.
-I usually read them a book of their choice after blanket time is over. They look forward to this every time.
I hope this helps. I encourage every mom to do this. It is so good in teaching your children discipline and encouraging them to focus. A very important thing to learn as they grow! And it is good for mom to have a few minutes to collect thoughts and regroup!;)

Ideas for keeping little ones entertained while "schooling" older children
1. Monday's are the busy day because that is when I sit with the oldest 3 and give them their assignments for the week. I allow them to work at their own pace and THEY decide when they accomplish their assignments. I have one that has a hard time planning ahead but a couple times of taking away a privilege because work is not accomplished makes a BIG impact! So on Mondays, my 4th child gets the joy of planning an activity for them. (I usually help her Sunday night come up with a little lesson and simple craft.) Usually they do things lots quicker than I need them too, but then they can read books quietly until we are done.
2. The baby naps in the morning still, so the younger 3 after him, have blanket time. I have a certain activity that they do on their blankets, chosen by me, that they must stay on their blanket to do. After one half hour, they can rotate their activity with their brother if they wish. Some things I give them are a box of Legos, potato heads, blocks, wooden trains and track, play cars, Lincoln Logs. This does take a little time to train them to stay on their blankets, but it is worth the effort and it teaches them to focus. That is what their school is at this age! I have even been known to reward them with watching a movie of my choice as long as they stay on their blanket. I do not do this often, because it really would defeat the whole purpose.
3 Play-dough, need I say more?! Not on their blankets by the way!
4. Creating a simple snack with the oldest that is not busy with mom.
5. Books on their blanket is set aside for Fridays. Sometimes they end up playing with them instead of reading them, but as long as they are on their blankets and quiet, let the creativity flow!
6. Wonder Markers and the books that go with them. If you are not familiar with them, they can be costly, but a good investment. They color only on the paper you buy for the special markers and are invisible on anything else. Great for toddlers! The older kids enjoy them also.
7. Old fashioned crayons and coloring books work well too. I do have some that just don't care for coloring much however.
8. I have one rubbermaid of toys that I only get out about once a month for the days when I need a little more time than normal or just a change. It is hands off unless mom says!
I don't feel real creative but these are some of things I use. Blanket time works the best and it usually allows me just enough time to complete what I need to do. Start young and work your way up and there will be less struggle. If you are starting from scratch, be patient and consistent.
I would love to hear your ideas! Post them on my comments page if you have any good ideas!
In spite of Me!
Earlier that morning my mom called and said there was a lady from Bosnia at her church that came up to her and asked if she knew of anyone trying to get rid of a cat. She really wanted one. Immediately we came to my mom's mind. My oldest son has an 8 month old kitten that he took in. He paid for her to be spayed and all of her shots, buys all of her food and anything else she might need. I never said a word to him about giving HIS kitten to her. After bible time I was in the kitchen, and he came in and said, "Mom, when you praying during bible time, God told me I was to give Midnight to the lady in Bosnia and to buy everything she might need to get her started with the cat. " He started crying and I started crying. It was a very special time! My first thought was, I'll find another way! It is so hard to see my son sacrifice something that is so important to him! It was not only something he loved, but something he had spent quite a bit of money on! It was then that I realized the prayers I have prayed for him to have an encounter with God and for my children to hear God's voice was being answered! How could I even think of stopping something so valuable in my son's life? Through my son's tears, I reminded him of the sacrifice that God made for us when He allowed His only son to die on the cross for us! I'm sure He did want to see His son suffer. He could have let the cup pass from Him, but He knew what was best. Now, my son is just sacrificing a cat, but it was such a great moment for us to look and appreciate the cross and all that our Jesus has done for us! It is all about our hearts. Are we willing to deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily? The cross was not just a little thing that he could carry in one of His hands. He had to carry and drag it on His back in the heat, on dirt roads while people were laughing and mocking Him! Sometimes the things He asks us to do are not easy, but if we are looking to Him, He will be there to pick us up and strengthen us. When my son hands that kitten over to the Bosnian lady, it will not be easy, but God will be there and I take comfort in knowing that whatever God asks of my children, no matter how difficult, He is right beside them. This has eternal value! It also reminded me, that no matter how my humanness comes through so often, God is faithful, and He DOES use me to teach my children about Him in spite of me!

Things that never cease to amaze me (and some things that are just a complete surprise)
1. Toothpaste- how do globs of it end up on my bathroom mirror, cabinets, floor, walls, doors, and the toilet? How is the lid always missing, and when I do buy the kind that has the flip tops, why is it that 1 day after using the new tube, there is so much of it globbed on the top that it won't close? And how does the tube disappear at least once daily AND how is that when my husband and I were without children, it took us months to go through one tube, and now, I feel like I buy a tube weekly? (I guess that might have something to do with the artwork all over the bathroom)
2. How little boys can find mud to track in the house even when it has not rained or snowed for 6 weeks.
3. How windows get broke IN our home!
4. How food gets on my walls and baseboards when the dining room table is in the MIDDLE of the dining room!5. How urine gets everywhere BUT in the toilet!
6. How the creative side of boys is used for unuseful things such as where to urinate. (examples=registers, in the seats of big wheels, garbage cans and brothers) I know maybe to much info!
7. When my husband says, "the older kids never used to do those things." I must remind him that they did not have 9 other siblings to observe. They just had sensible adults to watch!
8. How dried milk can end up ON THE CEILING!
9. How we can have all the laundry caught up and then the toilet overflows using 3 loads of towels. 2 for the bathroom on the 2nd level and 1 for the kitchen floor from the leaking roof on the 1st floor! OR all the laundry is caught up and the stomach flu makes a grand entrance into our home.
10. Why the older kids look at things such as cleaning and vacuuming as a "chore" and the younger ones look at it as a privilege.
11. When they use clothing for napkins and kleenex when we are fully stocked on both.
12.. How little boys really don't care when and IF they change their underwear.
13. Why nobody can flush a toilet.
14. How the human alert complaining system goes up when the baby needs a diaper change but nobody will change him.
15. What moms did before wipes were invented.
16. How closely related IT SEEMS that dads and kids are related to the ape family when it comes to interacting with bodily sounds and wrestling with each other.
17. If I decide to sit or lay on the floor, in a matter of seconds, boys come and climb on me or tackle me.
18. Life can stop when I have sick kids because all I want to do is sit and cuddle with them.
19. When my kids are healthy, I don't appreciate it!
20. How much joy and simplicity babies bring into a home.
21. How much I love being a mommy!

Sailing on the Sea of Me
